After 31st December 2020, the UK’s Brexit transition period with the EU will come to an end.
As a result, GB EU number plates will no longer be permitted to be fitted to vehicles from 1st January 2021, as announced by the UK government on 30th November 2020.
Owners of vehicles that already have GB EU plates fitted to the vehicle do not have to be replace them, however if you are travelling overseas a legal GB oval sticker must be displayed.
LEGAL CHANGES
The amended Statutory Instrument confirms that GB EU flags are only permitted during the UK’s membership of the EU, i.e. before the end of the Brexit transition period (see explanatory note regulation 4).

This new legislation comes into effect from the 1st January 2021.
EXISTING GB EU FLAG PLATES
As long as the plate was fitted before 1st January 2021, there is no need to remove & replace your existing plates. It is entirely down to your preference.
However, if you intend to keep your existing GB EU flag plates, you will also need to display a legal GB oval if you intend to travel to the EU in your vehicle.
