DPFs are usually self-cleaning, using the exhaust’s heat to clear away any build-up of particulate matter, but this is not always the case. Over time, it will become harder and harder for your DPF to clean itself, especially if you do lots of short journeys at low speeds which prevents the system from heating up fully. - A different engine note or higher idling.
- Your vehicle's cooling fans run more often.
